One quality I see in the people working in this office that I want to grow in myself is self-reliance. There’s a lot of times where I’m not sure how to do something, or I do something poorly, and I have to reach out to other people for help. On the other hand, everyone else seems like they know what they’re doing, which can be kind of intimidating. A lot of the mistakes I make are due to my general inexperience, both as someone not versed in the law and as someone who hasn’t graduated high school yet. I’m not used to being the least qualified person in the room, but I’m learning more how to move individually, and by the end of internship I hope that I’m asking for help deciphering something less and less.

Interning here is also good because I get to see what I would like or dislike in a career. As I’ve mentioned before, I love not having to wake up at 6:45, and I like the ability to bus home when I want to. I also like having a casual-ish relationship with the people I’m working with, even though the shift from office socialization to out-of-work socialization is taking some getting used to. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still treating my mentors with respect, but I’m also laughing at their jokes. However, I don’t like how quiet the office is, and it would be nice to be working with people around my own age, or with other HTHI interns. When I do enter the workforce, I’ll be at the age of everyone else, of course, but right now I miss the environment working with other HTHI students, and that’s something I’m looking forward to coming back. Well, that and the ability to wear t-shirts. I miss wearing t-shirts.
