For my iPOL, I’m going to try to give a broad overview of what internship was like for me, and then get into the San Onofre case. I first want to talk about what internship was like because for me, internship was kind of a scary transition. I had no idea what to expect from working for a company, and I was nervous to move from a school environment into a working one. Going to the junior internships and seeing their presentations was a real insight for me into what an internship could be like, and seeing the differences between each one helped me choose where I wanted to work. I also liked doing different fun things at each iPOL, like getting to play with VR at Simi’s internship and painting at Steven’s, so I want to bring an element of fun to the iPOL in addition to a presentation. Pietra bought us chocolate for her iPOL, which I really enjoyed, so I might do that too, especially because law office work is probably not going to be super engaging for a bunch of sophomores.
After covering the basics in my iPOL- what I do at the office, what a typical day is like, etc- I’m going to discuss the details of the San Onofre case. If I tried, I could probably spent 30 minutes on that alone. I’ll start by giving some background on the plant, and then go into the transferal of the waste, the major safety issues, and our plans to stop issues like those from happening. I’ll probably practice my iPOL with someone who isn’t at the firm, in order to see if it makes sense to someone who hasn’t been working on the case for the past four weeks. Then, I’ll talk about the work I’m doing for the case, including general research and formatting exhibits. I’ll finish the talk off with my project, and allow my visiting advisees to ask questions. I will be giving my iPOL in the office conference room, using a powerpoint presentation.
