The bad thing about this internship blog is that I love to talk. While this may not be so bad (I’m hitting triple the word minimum most days on here), it does mean that I’m almost clean out of things to talk about. So, for free post day, I’ll be discussing something a little off topic- my weekend plans. I promise this relates.

A little context first. This year, I’m going to apply for an arts summer college program called CSSSA. In order to apply, you have to submit three original art pieces based around prompts given three months in advance. Last year, I applied and didn’t get in, but I’m a sucker for punishment so I’m trying out again. But this time, things are different. I’m trying to pander more to the requirements and put less actual work in, which is good because last year I worked at one of the assignments for 50 hours over the course of a month. Needless to say, that was pretty hellish.

So what does this have to do with my internship? At the offices of Aguirre & Severson, LLP, I’m working on a case having to do with the storage of spent nuclear fuel at San Onofre. I’m researching the statements made by spokesmen of the company in charge of fuel storage, and seeing how they line up with the rules regulating storage. Over these past few weeks, I’ve gotten increasingly more irritated by how casually the company is treating storage, and I’m going to channel all of that rage into my application. One of the CSSSA prompts this year is to draw an issue you’re passionate about, and this definitely qualifies. So, this weekend, my dad and I are going to drive up to San Onofre in order to get photos of the nuclear power plant, in order for me to paint it later. I’ll be able to talk about all the research I’ve done into the plant, as well as portray it artistically, perhaps with some quotes that I’ve found while researching. It’s a really cool way to tie everything together and I’m excited to get painting!

Jan 31: Internship and College

In all honesty, I haven’t been worried about which college I’m going to. I’ve always found the devotion to one college a little odd, and...
